Stephen Marshall’s Tiny Houses
I ran into a new video of a tiny house builder that I had not seen or heard of before. His name is Stephen Marshall and the name of his company is Little House on the Trailer.
In this video he talks about how he got started with tiny houses back when he was 21. Stephen designs and builds these little structures on wheels for all kinds of people. He has sold them for use as a/an…

- Backyard office
- Art gallery
- Guest house
- Detached bedroom
- Caregiver suite
- Rural off grid house
He explains that 400 square feet is more realistic for him versus the 100-something square feet versions which he considers extreme, and I think that’s true for most people. By the way this video along with many other interesting ones is thanks to Fair Companies.
You can get a tour of the little houses at 1840 Petaluma Blvd North in Petaluma, California 94952. And you can watch the virtual tour right here…

I like what Marshall says–but wonder if anyone knows of a link or other source to support the statement that building tiny houses cuts down on development. That would be a great bit of info to bring to a city council meeting when lobbying for code changes to accomodate Tiny Houses/Granny Apartments in backyards, but to be useful, it needs a bit of documentation.
I also wish he had a minute to go into what happens when your go from 120 sq. ft. to 400 sq. ft.–how is that extra space used?
But overall, great and a nice perspective to add on the Tiny House discussion/movement–thanks to whoever made this video.
(One thought for future: is it possible to even out the sound a bit? The uneven sound–loud bagpipes and not so loud talking = bad mix.)
