Yestermorrow Sustainable Building School
A friend sent me a link to a really interesting sustainable building school called Yestermorrow. It’s located in Warren, Vermont and offers hundreds hands on courses in sustainable design, construction, woodworking, furniture making, green building, and more. It has been operating as a non profit organization since 1980.
They offer 1-day to 10-week intense courses taught by top architects, builders, and craftsmen. They also have certificate programs for woodworking, sustainable building and design, and natural building. This is a place I would absolutely LOVE to spend some time in. Here is an example of just SOME of their course offerings…
- Green Development Best Practices (3 days)
- Build an Earthen Oven (2 days)
- Home Design/Build (12 days)
- Solar Design (2 days)
- Green Remodeling (2 days)
- Community Design/Build (12 days)
- Put the Fab Back in Pre-Fab (5 days)
- Wind Power (1 day)
- Green Building Materials (2 days)
(continued…)

- Invisible Structures: Strategies Beyond Building Green (2 days)
- Beginning Furniture-making (5 days)
- Learn to Build a Skin-On-Frame Kayak (2 days)
- Intro to the Woodshop (2 days)
- Small Scale Design/Build (7 days)
- Permaculture Design Certification (12 days)
- Straw bale Design/Build (5 days)
- Green Building Materials (2 days)
- Intro to SketchUp (2 days)
- Sustainable Communities of the Future (5 days)
Attending Yestermorrow is about learning and expanding your knowledge, skills, and experience. There are one day workshops and three-month certificate programs with a focus on hands-on experience. The campus offers learning experiences, projects, usage of mechanical systems, and examples of previous work. I hope I get to visit this place soon!
